Harnessing the power of internet to create something good

I've always been fascinated by the paradox of social platforms such as facebook. It's such a shame when it could be such a powerful force for just the opposite. But this tendency is starting to slow down, or so I think. The rise of great initiatives such as MOOCs (Massive Online Open Classrooms) shows just how great the potential to make meaningful connections and exchanges can arise from a social internet ...

The way we view business isn't viable anymore

Frank Escoubès, founder of Imagination for People wrote a recent article for Huffington Post France in which he argues for a change in the way we view business. Which got me thinking about the way we choose to approach business and strategy. So here's a questions for you: If you think about a succesful business, don't you tend to see it as one which has outsmarted its competition and is now the "leader" in its sector?

I know I did.

But is this really correct?

We have been taught to approach business in a completely erroneous way ...

Weekend Readings - Failing as a Social Entrepreneur

We seldom want to talk about our failures, and yet, it is a crucial process. Every entrepreneur fails, including social entrepreneurs. Like a child who will fall before learning to walk and then run, it truely is by failing that we learn best. Failure in itself isn't a bad thing, as long as we take the time to look back on what happened and learn from it. Here are stories about failing, and about learning from one's mistake.

You know what Ashoka had to say about failure? Every Ashoka Fellow Experiences Failure - and that's ok To foster ...

Weekend Reading February 8th

The Arab Spring helped us realize the power of social media. Today, it is central to much development work and is used to respond more effectively to crisis situations. Social media allows the emergence of a plurality of discourses. Otherwise ignored voices are now becoming stronger. The African diaspora is using social media to influence development , often raising a strong voice against misguided development projects.

International organizations are recognizing the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the development of Africa. A joint report of the World Bank and the African Development Bank confirmed that ICTs are revolutionizing development ...

Weekend Readings January 25th

We all know how the weekday drill goes: too much work, no time to read. We've therefore prepared a round up of our favourite reads this week on social innovation and social entrepreneurship.

Defining social entrepreneurship:
No one really seems to agree what social entrepreneurship really is. The BC Centre for Social Enterprise has tried to round up some of the best definitions. Is your enterprise a social enterprise?

The choice of a business model:

Looking back at 2012

2012 was a busy year for Imagination for People. During the year, new partnerships were created, platform development advanced quickly and new mandates were issued to us – but it looks like 2013 will be even more exciting. We can finally put the functionality that we've been working on for the last few months online. Among other things, a new tool that will let you make a call to the community for any of your needs, a funding tool is also being developed and your profile page will be improved. January and February will be particularly busy, so we invite ...
