About the project Edit

Founded in 1997 by Michel Huchet, Voiles Sans Frontières (VSF) is an international solidarity organization that operates in remote areas, which are only accessible by sea or river. With the help of big trip boats, VSF conducts health and sanitary related activities, manages educational and school partnerships and develops projects to benefit remote populations. VSF operates primarily on the Casamance and Sine Saloum rivers in Senegal, as well as in the West Indies.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

The aim of Voiles sans frontières is to combine boating and assist the populations living in areas that cannot be reached by land. Objective: To provide medical equipment to these inhabitants - Voiles sans frontières collects medical equipment and medicine for developing countries. These are recreational boats owners willing to transport this material during their holidays. The sailors also accommodate on their boat doctors and nurses who embark on health care missions.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

In addition to helping the isolated populations, only accessible by sea and river, the concept of VSF rests on making the maritime world aware of the inequalities between the North and South.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

It would be possible to build solidarity for transportation with international companies by renting recreational boats. These companies are in contact with a tourist base that may be open to the possibility of combining their cruise with a humanitarian mission of this sort. This offer could also be managed by tour operators promoting rental companies, which have agreed to integrate the VSF needs in their services.
