At one time, the coffee shop was the place of choice for meetings, business and good company. Often located at the centre of the village, it was the focal point of the community.
These days, the Digital Coffee Shop recreates this space of convergence where several worlds cross paths – teleworkers and independent workers, coworkers, digital artists (or not), learners and educators, seniors and youth, employees and job seekers, public and private stakeholders, organizations, associations – all a way to facilitate links between various segments of the population.
The Digital Coffee Shop recreates the layout of a village. Digital brings a heightened element to the virtual and real space. Les Halles is a coworking space. La Place is a digital practices space. L’Atelier is a space for converting and repairing items (think Hackerspace and FabLab). La Bibliothèque is a place of resources and exchange…
The Digital Coffee Shop is registered in its territory as a facilitator of connections between its various actors.
The location is intended to facilitate collaborations, exchanges and self-help between various publics and entities. It encourages the sharing of knowledge, collaborative work and in this way contributes to the collective intelligence. It is registered as a third party opensource.
In order to facilitate possible ownership of project initiators that in this way links opensource, all the groundwork for implementing and operating will be accessible to everyone.
Coming from EPN multimedia animation and active on the EPN departmental and regional network, project initiators asked themselves about its evolution as much from a practices level as an economic one. Meeting various opensource third party creators, such as Comptoir Numérique of Saint-Étienne, has supported this willingness to undertake and create the Digital Coffee Shop.
