About the project Edit

Katha quality richly illustrated and finely written books for children. They come from the many languages of India for children who speak in these languages. We enhance the joy of reading and the love of books!

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Katha Books for Children find their inspiration from the lives of our children, their dreams and fears, their experiences of growing up. They are also fun stories that help a child to not only read well, but also to understand life and living. We believe Katha's colourful, beautifully written and illustrated books help transform children's lives.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Indian children get so few opportunities to hold a quality book in their hands, far less own one. Katha helps put a book in every child's hands. We believe this is the most fun way to bring children out of nonliteracy to realizing her/his potential.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

India has very few quality publishers for children. And with Katha books for children going digital, we have this tremendous potential to reach out to millions of children.

Katha is known and respected as translators for the nation. And this is the skill we bring to creating and sustaining the nascent field of translating for children in a linguistically vibrant India.

Katha is on its way to creating books from 21 Indian languages for children speaking in as many tongues!

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

In 1988, all that I wanted to do was to make lovely books for children which, as a writer for children, I knew I could. And today, the need is more acute than ever.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

We are working on one:)
