About the project Edit

Many public, private or community stakeholders in the territory of Brest propose meetings, debates and conferences in the cultural, scientific, economic and social domains. More and more often, these events are captured and put online. The Knowledge Portal’s mission is to gather this content on a unique site to make them more accessible to various interested publics and increase visibility, as well as the visibility of those who produce it.

This project was introduced by the municipal libraries of Brest in cooperation with the Internet and multimedia service of Brest in a call for tenders for Brest multimedia projects. It was retained by the Regional Council of Brittany and received financial support from the region/country Contract of Brest’s digital envelope.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

The Knowledge Portal brings together products produced by extremely diversified structures according to a territorial logic. In doing so, diversity of production and sharing of knowledge, including what comes from associations, is promoted. Shared content is organized by theme, support or contributor.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

This project is part of everyone’s knowledge acquisition for life. It encourages the dissemination of a territory’s educational and cultural offer to the public. It is a part of a better understanding of the partners between them.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

The project is open to new partners, even new territories, like Western Brittany.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

The Knowledge Portal stems from the fact that no other unique portal provides the diversity and abundance of cultural and education content produced online, even though it is often diffused by producing structures on their own sites.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

The project relies on public funding.
