About the project Edit

Created on January 15, 2007, this association consists of about 15 volunteers and is open to all neighbourhood residents. The first goal is to liven up the neighbourhood.

We are a group of about 15 volunteers whose first goal is to liven up the neighbourhood. We get together regularly on occasions like at Easter, Mother’s day, Halloween and Christmas. For each of these celebrations, we organize workshops for children or of course parents who can attend. This year will be chocked full of association events. In addition to the various get-togethers already mentioned, we are pleased to host part of the Brest Roller tour. We will participate in Brest 2008 and we also hope to host the open air cinema. As in many past years, there will also be a telethon and for the finishing touch, Christmas celebrations.

As well, there will be the following:

Mondays: the room is always open from 2 pm to 4 pm
Tuesdays: board games from 2 pm to 5 pm
Wednesdays: Little Smart Alecs workshops from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Thursdays: homework hope from 5 pm to 6 :30 pm
Saturdays: Open Air library from 1:30 pm to 3 pm

As well as our Cabbage Leaf newspaper that comes out every two months. Our garden, the Kerargaouyat Oasis, is part of the Vert le Jardin or green garden network.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Interview with Françoise Taburet Wiki-Brest :

Can you tell us about the Idea House of Kerargaouyat in a few words?

Françoise TABURET: The Kerargaouyat Residents Committee changed its name on January 7, 2007. In effect, we decided to create an association: The Idea House of Kerargaouyat; however, the raison d’être remains the same. As stated in our statutes, in the interest of solidarity, mainly we want to liven up our neighbourhood by organizing various events that encourage meetings between residents, bring about reflections and actions that improve our lives, open ourselves up to the outside by associating with other organizations such as Maison Pour Tous de Saint Pierre, Vert le Jardin, the Kerargaouyat Leisure Centre (CLSH), neighbourhood schools, Saint-Pol-Roux College, etc.

WB: The association attends the Écrits Écrans Publics meeting. Can you tell us a little more about the Forty Years in Kerargaouyat project?

FT: The Forty Years in Kerargaouyat isn’t a project since we celebrated them last June 24th! Participating is, therefore, more a projection into the past through a photo exhibit that shows the 40 years of the neighbourhood’s existence.

WB: What are your expectations for this meeting?

FT: To create awareness for our association, talk about our neighbourhood and certainly meet people, meet people, meet new people, learn more about the history of Brest!

What is the social value of this project? Edit

2009 Mother’s day celebrations at the Idea House in Kerargaouyat. Children from Kerargaouyat secretly prepared stunning flower arrangements for their mothers. They made beautiful, colourful wrapping paper. They added simple words that came from their imaginations and their love. This workshop was realized with the Smart Alecs team: Cécile, Fabienne, Jean-Claude and Sabrina. Working with the school, the association got closer to the Kerargaouyat high school to organize special events and this year in particular, the school’s 50th anniversary.
