About the project Edit

Eat fresh, local and in season: agricultural products at a counter next door to you in the heart of urban neighbourhoods in the metropolitan area

Themes

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

As part of the urbanism popping up everywhere, urban acupuncture, responsible consumption, social economy and agriculture supported by community, Tera Ter reintroduces healthy, local food in several places in the city as a tool to promote, animate and provide access to the local population.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Tera Ter’s urban counters help improve access in terms of product offering, cost and proximity to fresh, healthy and local food in underserved urban areas that are also often disadvantaged.

We promote buying food grown in Quebec, as well as short time-to-market. The offer is completed with a good variety food grown in season and that is closest to consumers. As well, in order to provide citizens with good service, procurement agents were chosen for their experience in customer service. Take advantage of their culinary creativity!

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

We are a recently-formed, non-profit organization working to improve geographic and economic access to fruits and vegetables in underserved or disadvantaged neighbourhoods. As well, we promote healthy food and buying locally.

To achieve our objectives, we have set up seasonal community markets in various neighbourhoods in the southwest areas of Montreal, namely: Verdun, Côte-Saint-Paul, Saint-Henri, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Peter-McGill.

Since 2009, we have been working to make these initiatives viable in terms of maintaining healthy food in underserved areas for the long-term.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

Mobilization of local citizens for safe food + young and dynamic entrepreneurs to take over + interested local and regional partners + many supportive, responsible consumers

What is the business model of this project? Edit

Tera Ter is a social economy organization.
