About the project Edit

Team Factory is an association that defends entrepreneurial education by gathering “Team Entrepreneurs” (name the students gave to the programs) in about groups of fifteen to create a true “school business” together.

The “school business” is to find products to sell (in general, intellectual services that the Team Entrepreneurs choose).

It should find clients (Team Factory partners agree to be approached by priority).

It should, therefore, earn revenues, a real economic resources for Team Entrepreneurs.


In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Team Factory was inspired by a successful Team Academy experience in 1993 in the Finnish education system at the Jyväskylä Polytechnic

What is the social value of this project? Edit

During their 9-month program, Team Entrepreneurs create and bring to life “school businesses”.

Each school business functions as an independent business with a governing body, clients, suppliers, accounting. However, to simplify the administrative aspects, the latter are provided by an “activity cooperative” (already in place) that the school business adheres to.

The school business benefits from activities that pay its collaborators, the team entrepreneurs. Team Factory partners are committed to responding to the school businesses’ service offerings with kindness. They will probably be their first clients.

When activities start, the Team Entrepreneurs must:

- analyse their knowledge, know-how and diverse experiences to determine the business’ target market
- create a school business, find a name, establish a governing body, assign duties and define how the group will work as a team
- launch activities: approach clients, get offerings, realize them, etc.

During the process, coaches are always available to help at the collective (to help the school business) and individual level (to help each person find their place and experience in the school business positively.

There are no exemptions from lectures at Team Factory, but coaches provide ongoing monitoring and directly confront economic life. Coaching is provides at two levels:

1) Team coaching: Each school business is completely monitored and driven by results, but internal operations (interpersonal relationships) are also monitored

2) Individual coaching: each Team Entrepreneur is supported in their own path as collaborator of their school business, but also in a more general way if they want, in their curriculum before, during and after Team Factory.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

The potential for the initiative’s expansion is particularly high as it benefits from Finland’s Team Academy experiences and that Team Factory already corresponds to a French geographic expansion of the concept. Several initiatives of this type are already underway in Europe and a Team Academy-type approach, led by the social business Percolab called Équipage (learning circles), is currently being launched in Quebec.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

At the initiative’s core is the understanding that entrepreneurs and business school students are not sufficiently prepared to work in teams and co-create. In order to develop the open innovation and co-entrepreneurial skills necessary, Team Academy and Team Factory prefer collective learning and smaller teams of neo-entrepreneurs who experience a real situation of co-design dynamics.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

Each business team generates its own financial resources through service offerings for clients who most often corporate partners of the approach that use a model similar to cooperatives (membership).
