About the project Edit

Despite an existing history, student mediation for conflicts between students – or peer mediation – is still a very emerging practice. The objective is to encourage students to resolve their own conflicts through parent-assisted dialogue instead of violence.

Among the programs known for student conflict resolution, we discovered the Conflict Managers Project that was set up at the Revere Elementary School by the San Francisco Community Board in 1982. In this program, mediation of minor problems occur in the school yard during recess without adult intervention. The mediation process is based on the principle of subtle community pressure, peer intervention and recognition of this mode of conflict resolution by students.
