About the project Edit

This project aims to offer empowering tools for amateur musicians in order to develop musical diversity, support the social richness created by local music events, and help indie music scenes not only survive but also thrive.

Through SpreadBand, we hope to provide local musicians with the same means and facilities as those available to long-standing artists, which can be made possible via digital facilities.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Spreadband is the first web platform to provide serious and socially engaged tools for amateur musicians and indie music scenes. One of the main challenges is to create a community around the project in order to eventually devolve power to site users while developing an equitable business model to render the initiative financially self-sustaining.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Spreadband gives a voice back to those who know how to create, experiment, and dare to step outside of the established musical boundaries. It strengthens the link between musicians and local music scenes, brings about cultural events that give life to local neighborhoods, sparks unexpected musical exchanges, and gives bands the opportunity to become known outside of their hometowns by breaking down geographical boundaries.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

While this initiative has been developed to facilitate local exchanges, it can also function on an international level. There are musicians all over the world and any given music scene can take on a number of different forms according to means and culture but the model is universal. The source code for this platform will likely be released in the near future, which would allow people to not only unite their efforts but also replicate the initiative in other domains such as theatre production.
