About the project Edit

Sésamath (www.sesamath.net) is a non-profit community of practice. Sésamath provides a collaborative workspace for teachers (sesaprof.net). The association publishes resources for math teachers such as, textbooks and worksheets (www.munuel.sesamath.net) under free licenses. In addition, the Mathenpoche site (www.mathenpoche.net) offers educational support. Sésamath is also developing the Labomep application (www.labomep.net), which allows teachers to create personalized online working sessions for their students. The association is also home to the online publication MathemaTICE (www.mathematice.net), which focuses mainly on the use of TICE, the French equivalent of ICT in education.

Themes

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

To our knowledge, there is no equivalent bottom-up organization of practicing teachers that facilitates the development of free pedagogical resources.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Sésamath provides free educational support and personalized resources that are accessible to excluded populations. The open licensing means that the existing resources can be adapted to favourize the local economy in developing countries.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Currently, the resources can be used among French-speaking populations. Eventually, through translation, it can reach an even larger population.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

A desire to work collaboratively in a country where teachers tend to be isolated and take advantage of the powerful leverage afforded by the internet.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

Currently, paper versions of the free internet content are published by editing partners. Sésamath receives a portion of the profit from each manual sold, which is then used to expand its operations.
