Web tool to track and report non-urgent issues in the public space

← back to informations

About the project Edit

SeeClickFix is a tool that allows citizens to track and report problems to those who are responsible for them in their communities.

This web-based application allows people to report non-urgent problems ranging from potholes and graffiti to specific needs like an extended bus route or bike lanes from their mobile phones. Local government officials get notice of the reported problems and can then solve them quickly.

Community groups and media outlets can also use SeeClickFix to report and track problems and bring them to the public's attention.

The tool uses features such as picture taking, map integration, tracking by geographical zones, votes and a "civic point" system to reward users who report and track a lot of problems.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Using mobile web technology, this tool allows crowdsourced problem reporting and tracking. SeeClickFix's code is opensource and available on Github.

Other citizen Web reporting services like FixMyStreet (UK) exist, but SeeClickFix differentiates itself by not being limited to a single country. It aims to be implemented globally and does more than just reporting only to government officials. Anyone can get alerts.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

This tool uses the power of the Internet and social media to promote civic engagement and better local government accountability. It allows authorities to answer problems they wouldn't otherwise know about if it weren't for citizen reporting.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

What is the business model of this project? Edit

The SeeClickFix tool is free of use for citizens and community groups. Local government and media outlets who want added functionality with the use of a dashboard for easier workflow management and analytics or a customized branding for their apps can do so but have to pay.
