About the project Edit

The Regional Youth Investment Fund (RYIF) is a fund provided by the Youth Secretariat within Quebec’s 2009-2014 Youth Action Strategy. In Montreal, more than $7.4 million is invested by the Board of 26 elected members under the age of 35 dedicated to improving the living conditions of people between the ages of 12 and 30.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Regional Youth Investment Fund is the financial tool provided by the Forum jeunesse de l’île de Montréal (FJÎM) to support innovative projects that address young people. The FJÎM is made up of 26 members between the ages of 12 and 35 who are elected in pairs and who represent the diversity of young Montrealers. Members decide on the investments to realize the actions of the RYIF through three financing programs:

Local and regional projects
In this program, initiatives that focus on improving the situation of young people in the Montreal region generally receive financial aid from the RYIF. Developers must submit projects that are designed for people between the ages of 12 and 35 and ask them to help manage and realize their project.

Actions designed for youth
In its youth action strategy, the Quebec government asks that Forum jeunesse de l’île de Montréal use a part of the RYIF to support Actions jeunesse structurantes (AJS), actions designed for youth. For more than a year, most often the AJS accepts partnership agreements that have a minimum of three partners. They focus on a particular youth-related issue or problem targeted by region, encourage regional dialogue and depending on the situation, allow them to try new ways of doing things. Necessarily involving Forum jeunesse, they must have an impact and significant leveraging effect on youth development in the region.

Therefore, what makes the RYIF unique is its originality in management by and for young people.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Because it’s managed by and for young people, the RYIF is the financial leverage that allows young Montrealers to define their priorities and bring forth concrete action for themselves.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Forum jeunesse’s strength is to update in order to adapt to its environment and to be one of the most established players in the region to bring strategic regional development targeting youth.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

What is the business model of this project? Edit

The Forum jeunesse de l’île de Montréal is a collaborative body of the Montreal Regional Conference of Elected Officials (CRE) that represents more than 500 youth organizations in the region. Its financial tool, the Regional Youth Investment Fund (RYIF), is a regionalized envelope stemming from Quebec’s Youth Action Strategy (AJS) coordinated by the Youth Secretariat.
