About the project Edit

Robin des Bois is a Montreal-based not-for-profit restaurant founded in 2006 by Judy Servay. The paid staff are supported by volunteers and all profits made through the food and product sales are redistributed to charitable community organizations working to end solitude, social isolation and poverty. Robin des Bois is located in the heart of the city, open to all those who wish to give, exchange and share. It’s a neighbourhood restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that privileges good food, learning and laughter while contributing to organizations working to improve the lives of our fellow community members. In its first year of operation, Robin des Bois contributed a first donation of $30 000 to various organizations including, Chez Doris, Le Chaînon, Cactus, Sun Youth, Santropol Roulant and le Refuge des Jeunes.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Robin des Bois offers creative and attractive volunteering opportunities that are based on the joy of sharing, cooking and eating well. It is a unique and inviting place that encourages an increased awareness and sense of accountability, both on an individual and collective level, concerning the situation currently facing impoverished people.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

The founder’s extensive background in volunteering taught her that working directly with those in need can often be both emotionally and morally draining. Robin des Bois creates a light-hearted community atmosphere that provides accessible volunteering opportunities to the largest possible number of people thus fulfilling an often-neglected fundamental human need: to be part of something greater than oneself.
