About the project Edit

Doc@Brest is a local cooperative of information documentation stakeholders in Brest. Open, free and available to everyone, the doc@Brest group gives professionals in the region the opportunity to share their practices and train themselves.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

It is a local network of information documentation professionals from various backgrounds (library, documentation, archives, training, monitoring, etc.) with related core professions.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

This networking of information documentation stakeholders will allow local stakeholders (libraries, documentation centres) to get to know each other, work in networks and train themselves.

This network will also give them new visibility and recognition for their local professions.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Created in the fall of 2012, today the network has 80 members, but could grow even bigger especially through word-of-mouth. The project could also be started in other territories in Brittany or other regions.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

Initiated by Brittany Telecom professionals of the municipal libraries network of Adeupa, the University of West Brittany of Ifremer, the project was could be realized thanks to the dynamic created by the meeting of “collaborative libraries” of the Cooperatives Uses Forum in July 2012 in Brest and a series of conferences proposed by Brittany Telecom in 2012.

The project initiators started from the premise that information documentation professionals of Brest were part of various networks that didn’t meet often despite their often related realities and issues. The second issue was Brest’s geographic situation that didn’t always allows professionals to take advantage of the national networks’ contributions.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

The network is information, doesn’t depend on any organization, doesn’t have a dedicated budget or legal status. It is defined by a name, logo and operational charter.

By organizing local workshops and conferences, the group allows people to participate. It creates a group dynamic, element of cooperation, innovation and exchanges on the evolution of professions.

It also allows for a cross of Brest initiatives: digital co-op, open bidouille camp (knowledge-sharing fair), Brest in common goods, etc.
