About the project Edit

Maisonneuve Pedicab is a social economy project that places neighbourhood youth in a work environment and lets them discover the neighbourhood and tourist attractions by bike. What better way to explore the neighbourhood!

The tourist route will be made up of five stations throughout the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood. The starting point of the Tour de Montréal will be on the Olympic Park grounds.

Passengers can get on or off at any one of the stations.

The project will be open from June 23 to September 2, 2012.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

What makes this project unique, creative and innovative is the fact that it connects the various socio-economic partners with the Olympic Park’s facilities. As well, the idea of pedicab promotes sustainable mobility, as well as discovering a neighbourhood in a whole new way.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Putting young people to work on this project is certainly the added value! Contributing to a new way of collaborating between organizations and borough partners with the Olympic Park is another added value.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

This kind of project can be implemented anywhere and is already active elsewhere in the world. It could be easily implemented on a large scale; in other worlds, in various neighbourhoods.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

The triggering factor was brought about by the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve Youth Employment Centre. The organization wanted to break the prejudices about the neighbourhood, improve the situation of young people and get them to actively participate in the borough’s relaunch. The new director of the Olympic facilities also wanted to contribute to this vision.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

The project will not only help citizens and tourists discover the neighbourhood, but also potential entrepreneurs who would like to setup a business there.

It is the meeting point of the Tour de Montréal!
