Peace Agro Army

Involving the military in agricultural production

← back to informations
BF Burkina Faso

About the project Edit

This project is about involving the army in agricultural production notably in times of peace. It is about providing arable land to the army, as well as the mechanical means to work the land. Each military region will have its space to grow several crops. Thanks to mechanization, production will help in the fight against famine and soaring prices.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

The creative aspect of this project is that is goes beyond military engineering which is fairly classic. It is a new solution that helps a good part of the army be productive and fight famine and low military incomes.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

The social value is that it:

- activates a large part of the military in times of peace
- increases the country’s agricultural production and lowers prices as a result
- pays the military with the fruits of their production even more so because their salaries are considered low

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Burkina Faso has a few military regions and the project will affect all of them.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

There were three essential triggering factors:

- As has been the case for several years in Burkina Faso, a large part of the army remains inactive in times of peace
- Soldiers of all ranks often have low salaries with no other activities to generate income
- Agricultural needs to be mechanized (but producers don’t have the means to) and capable men who to use the machinery (which could be soldiers after an initial training)

What is the business model of this project? Edit

- a base investment (from the state) will be needed to give the military camps arable spaces and equipment (ie tractors)
- generated revenues will gradually reimburse the investments
- part of the benefits will be used to pay the military in order to improve their incomes
