In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

The program was created by the Sawa Foundation. Young female participants have access to training for a period of two months in areas such as sexuality, voicing opinions, time management, global health and even movement and posture when in public. Training is given by professionals or non-profit organizations not frequented by participants including: GAP-Vies, Forum Jeunesse de l’île de Montéal, Aurée-Danse création, Max-Harry Productions.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

The social value is that the project brings together a clientele who are hard to reach for community programs in Montreal. The fact that the program concludes with a beauty and talent contest is motivation for some young girls (18 to 30 years old). The project allows young girls to strengthen their self-esteem and assert their personalities.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

This initiative can easily be implemented in high schools. Only Madame Agnès, the president of Sawa who created the event, knows what will happen in terms of the results of this initial formula.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

I think that the triggering factor of the project is the lack of benchmarks for immigrant women and the sense of worthlessness which manifests itself in many aspects because of things like hypersexualization, being paid less than a male counterpart for the same work, living under the decree of a bad entourage and all other types of discrimination, but also the lack of well-known role models who can inspire and provide peer support.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

Non-profit organization
