About the project Edit

Parboiling rice is a strong, intensive activity. It consists of first wetting the rice, then partially cooking it. It is then dried in the sun and husked. To turn the ovens, women at the parboiling centre in Bama, a community located west of Burkina Faso, used wood that cost them a lot of money over the years. “To parboil two tons of rice, we use at least 5,000 CFA (8€) of wood”, says Mariam Sawadogo, President of the Parboilers of Bama. Every year, women parboil close to 1,000 tons of rice paddy bought from producers.
