About the project Edit

The concept of a living wall, green wall and Vertical Garden describe vertical ecosystems or gardens, which are more or less artificial, designed as aesthetic elements for the scenery - called urban gardening - sometimes works of art - or even urban ecology.

Combining science, architecture and environmental protection, this concept can be applied anywhere, revealing nature at the heart of humanity. It was Patrick Blanc, French botanist and researcher (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) who created, tested and developed the horticultural concept of a Vertical Garden - using felt.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Vertical Garden is an ingenious invention that allows architects to introduce nature to the city. Vertical Garden was designed from observations in natural environments. It is based on a new cultivation technique that makes it possible to overcome problems regarding - the weight of the substrate and vegetation in vertical surfaces, regardless of the height. The plants are selected according to local climate and available lighting. The rendering is a true vegetable mosaic in terms of its verdant and changing state. Implementing a Vertical Garden is possible outdoors and indoors using an automatic watering and fertilization system.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

In addition to its exceptional aesthetic qualities, Patrick Blanc's Vertical Garden also has outstanding sound and thermal insulation since there is a layer of air between the metal frame and the wall frame. Plants are also a great way to clean up the air indoors.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

These green walls are put up around: banks, concert halls, museums, hotels, restaurants and bridges. They have also been put up in several cities worldwide.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit
