About the project Edit

Moitié-Moitié’s mission is to strengthen and create important social connections between Montrealers and new arrivals through culinary arts.

Services offered

Intercultural, themed potlucks that take place in small venues, community centres, art galleries, parks and the like. Meals will be shared around a big table where the food is placed in the middle. Lively conversation around a chosen topic will be animated. For example, nostalgia, joy, comfort, folly, etc.

Ethnic culinary workshop: Cooking workshops given by non-professionals who have learned to master their country’s cooking by cooking for others. While telling us the story of the last meal they prepared, they will share their family’s recipes, their culture and their passion for food. When the guest chef comes from a cultural community, the experience of leading a group activity can be an opportunity to feel valued in the host society – and when our chef is Québecois(e), they become the spokesperson for their culture as well.

Cooking together for a cause: Organizing small groups to cook for a community organization.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Concretely, Moitié-Moitié proposes organizing a series of gastronomic activities with the objective of bringing Quebecers of all origins together to share, exchange, discuss and connect through food. All the events welcome small groups (from 10 to 12 participants: half new arrivals + half established Quebecers), in order to maintain a warm atmosphere.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Moitié-Moitié strives to:

1) Strengthen the feeling of mutual understanding and interdependence in our society in order to become a more multicultural city, an intercultural city.

2) Break (or at least decrease) the cultural obstacles by embracing other people’s differences.

3) Give Montrealers the chance to promote their culture and encourage the use of French in social relationships.

4) Contribute to the sense of belonging to the city for new arrivals and facilitate their integration into the host culture.
