About the project Edit

“Stories and people”

A video tells a catastrophic tale in the style of theatre for the oppressed.

A group takes the video and refashions the story into a less catastrophic tale where human rights are respected. They then read the relevant article from the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The new story is filmed and associated with readings of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The reader is filmed by a friend, the video is dated, the location is recorded, and it is signed. The reader displays the UN flag. The context of the reading may signal a case of a violation or, conversely, the improvement of a right.

These millions of readings are in support of the millions of ongoing cases. They build a community. They are a plea for even more democratic functioning within UN institutions.

Article 5 of the United Nations Flag Code: Use of the flag generally

The flag may be used in accordance with this Flag Code by Governments, organizations and individuals to demonstrate support of the United Nations and to further its principles and purposes. The manner and circumstances of display shall conform, in so far as appropriate, to the laws and customs applicable to the display of the national flag of the country in which display is made.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

It is the edifice of the collective memory of humanity centered around declamations of articles from the declaration of human rights anywhere, anytime, and by anyone. It is a tool for the defenders of human rights who communicate their experience of the policy via the internet. It is a tool for the activities of UN commissions such as NGOs.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Providing everyone with the opportunity to have a voice, tell their stories, participate in political life, and understand human rights. The readings are a way to transform a passive audience into an active one in the application of human rights.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

The management and cartography of 500 million videos in less than 30 seconds does not pose an insurmountable technical problem. The deadline for this action is of little importance. A) It represents an incredible collective memory of actions in favour of human rights. B). It can be launched on the UN’s annual International Human Rights Day. C) Cataloguing existing readings will stimulate other readings and public debates.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit
