About the project Edit

Every year, about a hundred high school students learn the basics of journalistic writing through pedagogic activities. These activities touch on different disciplines and allow them to discover different cultural and scientific events in Brest and other regions as well. For 5 years now, this project has been teaching students how to produce video interview, from recording to uploading it online. The Web-trotteurs publish their video reporting on a médiablog, a Web 2.0 tool developed in collaboration with the city of Brest and with support of the Brittany region.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

The development of a specialized tool adapted for the publication of multimedia reporting in collaboration with students. The establishment of a participatory Web-TV channel.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Favouring the development of citizenship and independence in youth between the ages of 16 and 18 years. This is achieved by giving youth the opportunity to learn about new modes of information diffusion from the perspective of creators rather than that of consumers. We consider this project to be a way to integrate the yearly pedagogical objectives of different subjects while also fostering openness to humanism, science, culture, language and technology. Furthermore, we are able to target students who do not normally excel in an institutional setting because they are pursuing more technical or professional career paths or because they are not identified as literary or scientific. Following the experience, they are changed, or at the very least, more motivated.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

The médiablog was developed using free software. It has also been implemented by about forty associative structures in the region of Brest.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

What is the business model of this project? Edit
