About the project Edit

Glove Love is an initiative from Green Thing, a not-for-profit organisation set-up to inspire people to lead greener lives, that pairs up single gloves and sells them to new owners. Matched by size but not colour, Glove Love offers unique pairs for GBP 5.2 Single gloves are washed, repaired, labeled, given nametags (Five Finger Fiona, Red Fred) and letters of introduction. Then the gloves are sold and the profits go to the registered charity, Green Thing Trust. The organization even asks the new owners to enter in a special code that comes with the gloves so it can let the people who sent the gloves in that their gloves have found true Glove Love love.

Organisations like the Ambassadors Theatre Group, First Group and London's Natural History Museum have all given lost gloves to Green Thing for the Glove Love initiative and the organisation is asking is asking people to send in unpartnered gloves to keep its online store stocked.

Themes

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Green Thing has found a very creative and original way to address the widespread problem of losing the other halves of gloves in the spirit of 'waste not, want not'.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Glove Love is a great example of form (they look great), function (they keep your hands warm), and systemic sustainability (each glove evades landfill and avoids a new pair being bought with all the resources that uses). It's also part of what Green Thing calls All-Consuming - the art of wasting nothing and using up everything. The aim is to make Glove Love a must-have fashionable environmental product and by doing that spread the anti-waste message.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

The experience could be reproduced everywhere where gloves are used, and therefore lost. Green Thing hopes their initiative will be copied by people in other parts of the world. Not just for gloves, but for "all sorts of single things that can be put together in new, creative and aesthetic ways".

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

What is the business model of this project? Edit
