Mobile research and design workshop around the world

Départ de Quimper (29) - 30 pays à travers le monde

About the project Edit

This experimental and artistic voyage makes no sense unless it’s shared. The goal is not to create a substitute for a trip, but to provide attractive materials that capture everyday life where nature, technology and human relationships coexist.

Geocyclab is organized into three main principles which are the common interests of its participants:

. 3 years around the world on bikes
. a mobile design workshop
. research on “free”

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Geocyclab positions itself as a place of observation, research and design in constant mutation. Following Hakim Bey’s T.A.Z. (Temporary Autonomous Zone) model, it does and undoes, moves, appears, disappears, then reappears elsewhere.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

Geocyclab is a flexible device that allows a direct and open relationship to be established between our work as visual artists and the populations that they meet. It’s by inspiring us directly from this half virtual, half real life of this workshop that a series of reflections, installations and performances is born, as much as exercises in visual arts and audio visual design.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Here is a summary of Geocyclab’s main objectives:

- 40,000 km on recumbent bikes over a period of 3 years – 5 continents and 30 countries crossed.
- A project that is open, ecological and sustainable that raises questions about various planetary issues.
- Setting up a mobile workshop and autonomous research and artistic design.
- A research project on the notions of System D, the free-floating planet, 21st century artifacts.
- A production of images, installations, performances, sculptures, art objects and several audiovisual realizations (documentaries, recordings…)

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

We are two artists with complementary practices. Fanch Dodeur and Barth Péron launched this mobile research and design workshop around the world.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

We are currently soliciting various public subsidies and are looking for sponsorship and donations from businesses involved in any of Geocyclab’s fields of interest.
