About the project Edit

ÉIC is a collaborative, intergenerational, and transformative endeavour. Its vision is to provide Montreal with a model for collaborative creativity that brings together partners dedicated to innovation as a means of transforming the Innovation District and enhance citizens’ quality of life.

The initiative is deployed in the Innovation District (QI: Quartier de l'Innovation) in partnership with teaching institutions at all levels and students as well as organizations and businesses in the community.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

It's a platform that enables critical bridge-building among partners as a means of fostering collaborative initiatives, achieving successful projects, and fulfilling its mission.

École de l'Innovation Citoyenne provides students and schoolchildren with creative learning resources and the means to put knowledge into practice through participation in projects developed by organizations and businesses in the community.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

In essence, ÉIC is a connecting project that::

- Betters the quality of life in the QI by the accomplishments of projects with local partners from all sectors.
- Creates opportunities for students on the QI’s territory to put into practice what they have learned, collaborate with others and impact their community, from an economic, environmental, social and cultural standpoint.
- Constitutes a bridge between diverse education institutions (schools-CEGEPS-universities) and partners from the local community.
- Develops a culture of innovation within the district.
- Develops pride and affiliation with a community linked to the QI.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Only a few months following the launch of this initiative, several projects are already under way.

More concretely, a group of 8 students worked with the Coalition de la Petite-Bourgogne from August to November 2013 as the launch of the ÉIC, This project wants to revitalize the Sentier de la Bourgogne which includes park landscaping, bike paths and pedestrian walkways. In addition, 8 teams are participating in a brand image contest for the Sentier. The contest is mentored by the agency Parallèle which has developed the QI’s branding and will welcome, as interns, the winning team in order to deepen their concept for its realization.
