The pain that this project wants to downsize is named "Digital Divide" ("fracture numérique" in french). It is a new pain but a growing one. It is a root pain for social and economical divides.
The social value to bring is for three types of stakeholders that can work more closely, as teams:
1) The private persons and specially the young people who are ready to learn digital skills, internet, programming, test, IT helpdesk, processes, mathematics,... and who needs some helps and incentives to effectively learn
2) The companies or non-profit associations which are needing more people with digital skills (quite a lot...)
3) The schools and public bodies which are working in that area: in the employment, technical formation or joblessness issues
The specific edges to attack this Digital Divide "iceberg" are:
1) FUN
2) MAKERS TEAM
3) BRUSSELS
FUN because learning information technology and mathematics can be really fun.
Our too technical world is also needing fun and fun is an energy needed if such group wants to last
TEAM because mixed teams of stakeholders are needed to correctly feel what are the "Digital Divides" and how to "heal" or downsize these divides.
BRUSSELS to act in a city full of challenges and opportunities with today 21% of unemployment level...
Involving the 3 types of stakeholders (learning people, business companies and involved public bodies) to define and to build "IT training projects" that must be fast (3 months max), coached by IT experts and fun (e.g.: supported by the "gamification" trend). The targeted IT skills will be suited to the profile of the trainees, including young people with relatively low skills but eager to learn.
The level of unenployment in Brussels area is today 20% while Brussels business companies are spending very important budgets to recruit IT skills from abroad.
Upsizing the IT skills of young people will benefit these young people, the companies and all the Brussels community.
The initial prototype can be improved, scaled up and applied to different types of IT skills and different categories of trainees. On the long term, important costs will be saved for the Brussels community. It could be also applied to other Belgian cities with unenployment issues.
ICT skilled resources are more and more needed for employees and for profit + non-profit + public companies while the unenployment level in Brussels area is still very high...
See above: the 3 types of stakeholders have interests to invest money and energy in the project and they will, all, benefits of these investments.
By combining the 3 different views on ICT training from the 3 types of stakeholders, a new soil will be available to let emerge innovative solutions for a lasting society problem
Hiring local people in Brussels companies will downsize the needs to commute
