About the project Edit

This project aims to give a special characteristic to many of the streets in the city, linking people and artists through windows. The idea is to have people work with an artist to find a way to dress up their window(s) so that they can express in public space (the street) something personal, using their window to say, show and inform what they want.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

This makes it possible to promote art in the city by involving habitats - asking them about their artwork and their possible effect on urban space.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

The window is the boundary between public and private space, a means for dialogue between the inside and outside world. Playing a part in this window initiative can change the daily environment of the streets, by arousing the curiosity of the passer-by, their questioning - making it easier for exhibitors and passers-by to meet. As a result, this project creates social ties.
It also raises the question of town planning and ownership of the resident's neighbourhoods, their streets.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Implementing the concept of "Speaking windows" is possible worldwide. Set up in Lille (North of France) 10 years ago, it has had an office in Montreal (Quebec) for 5 years.
In 2011, the project developed and has been implemented in other urban areas, through the "Talking Spaces" project.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit
