About the project Edit

Like peddlers, we hope to share the good news so that it travels and multiplies throughout the world.

The good news is the multiplicity of local initiatives focused on sustainable development and cooperation. They all share a common prospect: a change of scale.

Concretely, how can collaborative practices, through the involvement of thousands of people, initiate and perpetuate sustainable development on a regional scale? This question is at the heart of our concerns.

With the recent development of digital technologies, collaborative practices have proved very efficient. The cooperation of thousands of people is now possible. Reusable resources can be shared to develop participative projects, which increases shared resources and enriches community life.

We hope to give visibility to these innovative practices and prove that they work. But, above all, Collporterre’s mission is to gain an understanding of how these projects can be launched and perpetuated. The goal is to make the “how-to” that is, the source code of these initiatives accessible so that they can be put to use for other regions.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

This initiative promotes existing projects and demonstrates the value and potential of collaborative practices. It also makes the “how-to” of collaborative projects accessible to ensures that it is widely diffused and reused by other regions.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

We can learn from history to gain new perspectives on the successes of ordinary people. Social transformations sprang from the desire to improve community life, and new practices that enrich local life. These ideas are utopian for some, ordinary for others.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

The potential of this project to expand and develop is immense. The method (the “how-to” or source code) for every initiative explored by this project is made accessible. In this way, anyone can understand it and readapt it or apply it in other regions. All of these discoveries are made accessible and widely diffused via a collaborative space. The data is open; anyone can use it, study it, modify it, or duplicate it.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

This project was sparked by a realization made in spring 2011: Local initiatives for sustainable development are cropping up and multiplying throughout the world but they often benefit only a handful of citizens. How then can we reach the next level or “scale up?” By creating conditions in which local initiatives multiply; specifically, by encouraging cooperation and collaboration of relevant players.
