About the project Edit

Created in September 2009 by Transition Town Brixton, the Brixton pound is a local alternative currency to the pound sterling. The Brixton pound aims to promote the local economy by tying together local retail consumers and shops and by encouraging local businesses to source goods and services locally. Pounds sterling can be exchanged for Brixton pounds at different issuing points and are equivalent in value to the pound sterling.
